Supporting the grass roots of our industry has always been important for Avolites, so they were happy to support Darlington College recently with a Tiger Touch II loan for the students to control the lighting for their end of year production.
The students studying for their BTEC in Production Arts study a variety of industry specific modules such as; lighting, automated fixtures, sound, stage management, set design and build, and props, which culminates in an end of course production.
The College has been using Avolites products for just over two years, originally drawn to the brand because of the powerful OS with exceptional features, but cost effective in comparison to its competitors. The students learn to programme on the PC suite and usually use Titan One dongles. However, because the same operating system runs across the whole product range, the students were able to transfer easily to one of Avolites’ most popular consoles, the Tiger Touch II.
After using the Tiger Touch II console the students found the shape generator and quicksketch tools the most useful, but were most impressed by the ease of use of Titan version 9 and look forward to being able to try all of the new features of Titan version 10.
The rig was mainly quite generic with the addition of scrollers, led wash movers, led parcans, two VL 2000, two highend 575 washes and two high end 575 spots.
The students based their lighting design on Technical Director, Tim Paver’s previous design at the Majestic Theatre in Darlington, which was based around lots of bright states and chases with specific mood lights for some of the scenes. Tim commented “the students did a fantastic job pre-programming on the Titan One and running their design on the Tiger Touch II, which was easy to use, but feature-rich and powerful enough to deliver everything they needed.”
